								<description>Buffalo, New York,  The University at Buffalo Libraries are seeking applicants for a Digital Archives Technician (Instructional Support Technician) to serve on a growing team of archivists responsible for creating and processing digitized and born-digital materials for all Special Collections&#8217; units within the Libraries -The Poetry Collection, Robert L. Brown History of Medicine Collection, Rare and Special books, and the University Archives. The Digital Archives Technician is primarily responsible for assisting the Digital Archivist in accessioning, preserving, processing, and providing access to unique digital resources in the University Libraries Special Collections. 
 Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 
 &#8226; Working with the Digital Archivist to accession born-digital donations to Special Collections. &#8226; Appraising digital collections according to local and national best practices. &#8226; Assisting the Digital Archivist in processing born-digital collections including preservation, arrangement, and description according to local and national best practices. &#8226; Participating in reformatting obsolete and at-risk analog media. &#8226; Creating original metadata for digital resources. &#8226; Overseeing finding aids maintenance (additions, updates, linking to catalog records, and digital collections). &#8226; Contributing to the development and implementation of digital preservation workflows. &#8226; Supporting researcher discovery, access and use of born-digital collections remotely and in the Special Collections&#8217; Reading Room. &#8226; Participating in library instruction sessions that focus on digital resources in Special Collections.

Minimum Qualifications: &#8226; Master&#8217;s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution. &#8226; Demonstrated awareness of the challenges and opportunities for justice, diversity, inclusion, equity and access in staffing, services, collections, and physical spaces within the Libraries, the university, and in higher education. &#8226; Demonstrated commitment to advancing justice, diversity, inclusion, and equity in organizations. &#8226; At least one year of relevant professional experience processing archival collections, preferably in a special collections&#8217; repository or museum. &#8226; Demonstrated proficiency in archival theory and practice, especially accessioning, processing and description, including minimal and basic processing strategies. &#8226; Demonstrated proficiency in the use and application of DACS, EAD, MARC, LCSH, Dublin Core, and other library and archival descriptive and content standards. &#8226; Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, project management, and organizational skills. &#8226; Demonstrated problem solving skills. &#8226; Must be able to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a collegial environment. 
 Preferred Qualifications: &#8226; Familiarity with current approaches to accessioning and description of born-digital holdings. &#8226; Familiarity with new and emerging technologies in digital preservation.&#xa0;Experience in the use and application of digital preservation systems, such as Preservica, Archivematica, etc. &#8226; Experience in the use and application of archival content management systems, such as ArchivesSpace, Archivists&#8217; Toolkit, or Archon. &#8226; Experience in the use and application of software used for editing digital images, audio, and video files, such as Adobe Bridge, Handbrake, Audacity, or Final Cut Pro.

 Organization Description: Through the innovative &#8220;Iowa Idea&#8221; developed in the 1920s, the University of Iowa became one of the earliest proponents of object?based learning in higher education; today, the UI remains committed to incorporating art and primary sources into teaching and research, and the UI Libraries and the Stanley Museum of Art are at the forefront of this effort. In August 2022, the Stanley Museum of Art will reopen in its new building adjacent to the Main Library. This proximity will enhance our longstanding collaborations, which already include co-curated exhibitions and conservation projects. These strengths provide unique opportunities for cross-collegiate collaboration with faculty from STEM, arts, and humanities disciplines. 
 &#xa0; 
 Position Description: The UI Libraries and the Stanley Museum of Art, which hold deep, culturally diverse, and complementary collections of art and visual materials, are seeking an engaged and intensely collaborative librarian or museum professional to serve as Academic Outreach Coordinator. Reporting to the Libraries&#8217; Special Collections and Archives Outreach and Engagement Librarian (60%) and the Stanley Museum&#8217;s Curator of Learning &#38; Engagement (40%), the Academic Outreach Coordinator will work toward short- and long-term goals intended to increase the visibility and usability of diverse collection materials in both units. 
 &#xa0; 
 The Academic Outreach Coordinator will collaborate with faculty to help them align object-based learning with course objectives across the curriculum. They will draw from collections representing diverse creators, while leveraging their understanding of the experiences of historically underrepresented people in academic libraries and museums. They will also facilitate discovery and pedagogical use of collection objects in the UI Libraries and the Stanley Museum; lead object?centered teaching and research workshops for instructors across campus; and assist faculty and graduate students as they produce original research on collection objects. 
 &#xa0; 
 Specific duties and responsibilities include: 
 
 Promote discoverability of resources, particularly those created by artists from Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) communities, with a special focus on collections such as the Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry, Alternative Traditions in Contemporary Arts, Global African collections, and the Stanley Museum&#8217;s works on paper. 
 Build and sustain relationships with students and faculty, in collaboration with other UI Libraries and Stanley Museum staff. 
 Develop strategies to integrate collections at the Libraries and Stanley Museum into teaching and research at the University. 
 Lead campus workshops to promote use of Libraries and Stanley Museum materials in the curriculum. 
 Assist with relevant physical and digital exhibits, events, and programs, particularly those about artists or creators who identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+. 
 Actively participate in departmental initiatives and standard operations such as provision of reference services. 
 Collaborate with colleagues across both the Libraries and Stanley Museum. 
 Keep abreast of developments in special collections and museum standards and trends, applying new rules, interpretations, and techniques as appropriate. 
 Contribute to the profession through service, research, publishing, and/or teaching; and contribute to relevant library and University-wide activities and committees. 
 Additional job duties as assigned based on individual knowledge, skills, and abilities.
