								<description>Clinton, New York,  The archivist is responsible for implementing the mission of the Hamilton College Archives.&#xa0; This includes, but may not be limited to, collecting, organizing, describing, preserving, and making available Hamilton and Kirkland College records and personal papers of enduring value from administrators, faculty, students, and alumni from the founding of the Hamilton-Oneida Academy to the present, for the use of members of the Hamilton College community, scholars, and the general public. The archivist also interfaces with special collections staff and leads the management of Hamilton College&#8217;s ArchivesSpace repository, as well as the preparation of finding aids using EAD (Encoded Archival Description) for the entire department. The archivist occasionally teaches classroom sessions on archival principles and collections, and facilitates curricular use of the archives in cooperation with faculty and students. The archivist will collaborate with metadata and digital strategies staff in the management of digital archival materials. Master&#8217;s degree in library science with a specialization in archival studies. Equivalent combination of Education and Experience will be considered. If the advanced degree does not include archival training, one-year archival experience is required.&#xa0; &#xa0; 
 Knowledge, Skills &#38; Abilities: 
 
 Computer skills and demonstrated ability to learn databases, scanning and dealing with images, e-mail, spreadsheets, word processing.&#xa0; 
 Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, ArchivesSpace and EAD (Encoded Archival Description) are both essential.&#xa0; Some knowledge of MARC cataloging would be helpful. 
 Good writing ability; meticulous accuracy.</description>
