								<description>Waco, Texas,  The Baylor University Libraries seek applications for the position of Director of The Texas Collection &#38; University Archives. This academic professional with faculty status provides leadership, vision, and direction for The Texas Collection &#38; University Archives and is responsible for the strategic planning and day-to-day operations of the library and archives. The Director also provides administrative oversight of Baylor at Independence, the original site of Baylor University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Independence, Texas. 
 Celebrating its centennial in 2023, The Texas Collection is one of the largest Texana collections in the world. While focused on the Lone Star State, The Texas Collection also holds information on the Southwest, Mexico, westward expansion, and beyond. Materials date from the 15th century to the present and tell the story of Texas from pre-Republic, Republic of Texas, and statehood. Scholars from all over the world come to The Texas Collection to research facets of Texas including history, agriculture, literature, religion, politics, and education. The Texas Collection hosts Baylor classes and provides special presentations and programming for the public. The mission of the University Archives is to collect, preserve, and provide access to records related to Baylor University. Materials in the University Archives shine a light on the important decisions that have made Baylor the institution it is today, providing valuable insight into our storied past. 
 The Baylor University Libraries support teaching, learning, and research at Baylor University and consist of the Moody and Jones Libraries, Armstrong Browning Library, Arts &#38; Special Collections Research Center, Institute for Oral History, Keston Center for Religion, Politics, and Society, Library and Academic Technology Services, W. R. Poage Legislative Library, and The Texas Collection &#38; University Archives with over 2.5 million volumes, significant holdings in e-journals, e-books, databases, and other digital content ( https://tinyurl.com/bulstats ). 
 
 
 
 
 Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 
 
 Provides leadership, vision, and direction for The Texas Collection &#38; University Archives and fosters an inclusive and collaborative work environment 
 Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the library and archives, including supervision of faculty and staff 
 Oversees and administers the budget and endowments 
 Provides administrative oversight of Baylor at Independence, the original site of Baylor University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Independence, Texas 
 Prioritizes building and managing a research collection that reflects the diversity of Texas 
 Promotes the visibility and advocates for the use of The Texas Collection &#38; University Archives 
 Identifies and develops successful relationships with potential donors of materials 
 Seeks funding from grants, foundations, and donors by working with the Dean of University Libraries and University fundraising officers 
 Works collaboratively and collegially across all Baylor University Libraries and with faculty and staff across the University 
 Serves as a member of the Baylor University Libraries leadership team 
 Participates in Libraries and University organizations, committees, and task forces 
 Meets University expectations for scholarship and service, including active participation in local, regional, national, and international organizations

 Required Job Qualifications: 
 
 Master&#8217;s degree from an ALA-accredited program, or other relevant degree, plus seven or more years of experience working in a library, archive, or special collection 
 Successful management experience, including the ability to manage and develop staff 
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
 Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and competing priorities 
 
 Desired Job Qualifications: 
 
 Knowledge of library and archival theory, methods, and practices 
 Experience with budget management, fundraising, and outreach 
 Familiarity with Alma/Primo, CuadraSTAR, and Quartex, or other library and archival management systems

								<description>Austin, Texas,  GENERAL SUMMARY Performs routine (journey-level) managerial work administering the daily operations and activities of the Archives unit of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. &#xa0;Work involves establishing goals and objectives; developing guidelines, procedures, policies, rules, and regulations; developing schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; evaluating and coordinating activities. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. 
 ESSENTIAL TASKS Plans and manages the State Archives Department. Oversee staff including conducting performance appraisals and creating development and retention plans. Recommend, develop, and implement policies and procedures related to archival collections and monitor compliance. Consult with state agencies and regional historical resources depositories regarding final disposition of records. Assist in reviewing agency records schedules and requests to dispose of public records. Develop budget requests, monitor expenditures, and related vendor performance. Oversee review of records in accordance with provisions of the Texas Public Information Act (PIA). Attend work regularly and in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct. 
 OTHER TASKS Research, write, prepare, and present information virtually or in person. Conduct special projects and represent the agency as assigned by the Division Director. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master&#39;s degree in Library and Information Science, History, Government, American Studies, or related field. Three years professional experience performing archival duties. Two years experience hiring, training, and supervising staff. Experience with records management principles, practices, and procedures. Ability to apply innovative ideas to improve the operation of the Archives Services unit. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to move boxes weighing up to 40 pounds. Ability to direct and oversee the work of others. Ability to work well with a wide variety of persons in and outside the division. Ability to speak before groups and to communicate and deal effectively with all levels of state and local government, staff and the public. 
 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience managing an archival service area, such as appraisal, processing, or reference. Experience working in a government archives. Experience managing or providing access to government records. Experience in the appraisal of government records and manuscript materials. Experience in the application of descriptive standards for archival records. Experience working with ArchivesSpace. Experience working with the Preservica preservation system. Experience in responding to Texas Public Information Act requests. Ability to speak, read and write Spanish. Coursework in US or Texas history and government. Certified Archivist designation. Digital Archives Specialist certification. 
 OTHER REQUIREMENTS College transcripts (undergraduate and graduate) must be submitted at the time of application. Portfolio of writing samples including finding aids, correspondence, reports, and articles or instructional materials. Applicants selected for interview will make a 15-minute presentation on a designated topic at the time of the interview to assess ability to provide instruction and make public presentations. Occasional overtime work, including night and weekends may be required. Travel by personal auto and commercial air occasionally required. Criminal history check will be required of successful applicant. Ability to work in a non-smoking environment. 
 SUPERVISION Reports to Director, Archives and Information Services Division. Supervises: Archivist IV, III, II and I positions; Electronic Records Specialists; Digital Asset Coordinator; students and volunteers.</description>
