The Processing Archivist for the Thrivent Corporate Archives aids the Archives Manager & Corporate Historian in acquiring, preserving and organizing corporate records and historical items of permanent and continuing value. In addition, the Processing Archivist is responsible for inventorying incoming information/materials, ensuring proper preservation standards are applied to archival information/materials, and supporting the Archives Manager in initiatives and tasks critical to the role, including providing reference services and outreach to Thrivent stakeholders.
The Processing Archivist is a 2-year contract position. The individual hired will be based in Appleton, Wisconsin and will work on-site directly with Thrivent’s Corporate Historian/Archives Manager.
Job Duties:
Appraise incoming material to determine business and historical need and short/long-term value to the organization.
Inventory material using judgment to ensure proper location and retrieval of content.
Ensure the proper storage and electronic cataloging of incoming materials, following established standards and best practices.
Assist in processing the physical backlog of the archives.
Assist in acquiring, processing, and preserving born-digital archival material.
Assist in reference and outreach work in the absence of the Archives Manager.
Requirements:
Master’s degree in library & information science (MLIS), other graduate degree with archival specialization, or related experience required.
Knowledge of & experience with relevant descriptive standards for archival collections.
Hands-on experience arranging and describing archival collections preferred.
Familiarity with the history of American business preferred.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Ability to work alone, in remote/secluded area.
Ability to work in a variety of climates and conditions.
Strong written and oral communications skills/interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with basic software tools, such as Microsoft Office. Experience with archival collections management systems—particularly Lucidea—preferred.
Role is an on-site position in Appleton, WI.
