Archival Internship
The National Committee is looking for an intern interested in a 10-hour per week commitment. The internship offers an exciting opportunity for a current student or a recent graduate to assist in managing and researching a collection of archival photographs from China during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. This internship provides hands-on experience in historical research, photo archiving, and digital preservation. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of $850 USD.
Location: 6 East 43rd Street with the possibility of a few remote hours
Responsibilities include:
Photo Cataloging:
Assist in cataloging and organizing photographic collections.
Use archival standards to create detailed records for each photograph.
Communicate findings and updates regularly.
Research and Documentation:
Conduct research to identify individuals, locations, and events depicted in photos.
Verify historical accuracy and provide context for each image.
Help analyze historical and cultural significance of photographs.
Digital Preservation:
Support the digitization process of physical photographs.
Ensure high-quality scans and maintain digital files according to archival standards.
Database Management:
Update and maintain digital archives and metadata.
Assist in developing and implementing a searchable database for easy access.
Qualifications:
Pursuing or completed a degree in History, Asian Studies, Archival Science, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of archival practices and digital preservation techniques and familiarity with database software.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Strong interest in modern Chinese history and visual culture preferred.
Knowledge of Mandarin Chinese is a plus but not required.
Ability to 10 hours per week
Authorization to work in the U.S. is required
