History Associates is actively recruiting qualified individuals with experience in cataloging German language publications, including historical materials, copy cataloging, and original cataloging.
The Library Cataloger will be based at a client’s site in Bowie, MD as a part of a project team alongside an archivist, collections manager, and project manager.
This position is full-time; 40 hours per week and is expected to last about 2 months with a likely chance for extensions. This position is not eligible for any benefits offered by History Associates which includes paid time off.
Responsibilities:
Perform copy cataloging, original cataloging, or updating to existing records, as appropriate, including descriptive cataloging, subject cataloging, and LC classification assignment for library materials in a variety of languages and formats including books, pamphlets, periodicals, and other resources utilizing OCLC Connexion and the client’s Voyager Cataloging Module.
Apply relevant subject matter knowledge and expertise in German and other relevant languages
Work in coordination with designated colleagues to ensure that materials are properly handled, rehoused, barcoded, and labeled, as needed
Comply with established quality control protocols and consults, as needed, with designated colleagues to ensure that any quality concerns are properly addressed
Work in coordination with colleagues regarding physical access to materials and tracking of materials as they are completed and ready for further processes.
Participate in other project-related tasks and meetings with project manager and team.

Requirements:
MLIS, or a Master’s in a related field; OR a Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of work experience.
Strong German language skills, especially in reading Fraktur and Sütterlin fonts as well as handwritten script.
Subject matter knowledge of the history of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.
Familiarity with OCLC Connexion Client, Voyager Cataloging Module, RDA (ALA), LCSH & LCNAF standards, etc.
Experience with original cataloging as well as copy cataloging.
Familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft applications.
Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues.
