Length: 15 weeks for 20 hours per week with the possibility to extend to 30 weeks

Are you passionate about researching the history, traditions, and culture of colleges and their surrounding communities? Are you great at organizing, researching, and documenting findings? Would you like to increase access to historical resources? If so, this may be the internship you have been seeking. The Roanoke College Archives has a newly created internship for a graduate student available beginning Spring 2023.
The Fowler Archives Intern will assist with inventorying, processing, arranging, and describing collections in the College Archives. The intern will conduct archives reference and respond to research queries from students, faculty, staff, and external researchers. The Fowler Archives Intern will work on several projects including outreach to assist with the promotion of archives and special collections to the Roanoke College community and will collaborate with the College Historian and the Center for Studying Structures of Race on the inclusion of archival materials in instructional settings, for curated exhibits, and in college publications. As part of the Fintel Library team, the Fowler Archives Intern will participate in the promotion of library services and resources and assessment of the quality of library services, user satisfaction, and academic success through a proactive and collaborative approach.
Candidates should be enthusiastic, self-driven, analytical, and detail-oriented, possess excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to supporting and fostering an educational environment and campus experiences that are socially aware, culturally inclusive, and globally mindful, and that celebrate diversity, strive for equity and are free from discrimination.
Required
Currently enrolled in an ALA accredited, graduate library/information science program or enrolled in a graduate public history program with a focus on archival management
Strong written and oral communication skills

Desirable Qualifications & Experience
An undergraduate or graduate degree in history
Some experience working in a library, archives, or cultural heritage organization
Some experience with metadata and systems used to manage and describe archival collections
Some experience with description and digitization of primary source collections
