Provide leadership and support to Cherokee Nation’s archival and repository department. Oversee and ensure archival collection is maintained, properly displayed, stored and accessible in accordance with professional standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

• Establishes and implements archival operations plan, policies and procedures including professional standards in relation to archiving, storage, digitization, publication and any additional related actions.
• Oversees archival staff activities as it pertains to cataloging, maintenance, preservation and storage of archival material.
• Develops and cultivates relationships with relevant organizations and businesses to further archival collections mission.
• Supervises research on current items in the archival collections and potential acquisitions.
• Identifies appropriate partners and programs.
• Develops budget recommendations and administers designated budget.
• Provides information on area of expertise to Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism and outside agents.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

Supervise/manage and have authority over hiring/firing/performance decisions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in History, Library Science, Archives, Native American Studies or related field and 3 years of museum or archival related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Advanced knowledge of archival concepts, theories, methods and trends.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Excellent written communication, presentation and computer skills.
• Knowledge of database, spreadsheet and word processing software.
• Ability to lead, mentor and advise a team.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work may be performed in a variety of settings, including climate-controlled office settings and casino floors which may include exposure to second-hand smoke and crowd noise. Work may require lifting and carrying materials up to 50lbs. Work includes varied shifts, including weekend and holiday shifts as needed. May require travel, including overnight stays.
