About Atlanta History Center
Atlanta History Center’s mission is to preserve and interpret historical subjects pertaining to Atlanta and
its environs, and present subjects of interest to Atlanta’s diverse audiences through its collections,
facilities, programs, exhibitions, and publications. Our vision is to connect people, history, and culture. This
study of history illuminates different perspectives, broadening individual perspective to better understand
others and be inspired to engage in local community and create a better Atlanta.
Atlanta History Center is the largest museum in the Southeast dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of
history. AHC’s 33-acre campus contains the Atlanta History Museum, three historic houses, 22 acres of
historic gardens, and the James G. Kenan Research Center. AHC also owns and operates the Margaret
Mitchell House in midtown Atlanta.
Atlanta History Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with 58 full-time employees, and a
volunteer Board of Trustees that has governance oversight for all organizational policy, planning,
fundraising, and public relations, as delineated in AHC's charter and by-laws.
