Emory Law, a top tier law school in the thriving city of Atlanta and the home of the Hugh F. MacMillan Law Library, is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and service-oriented professional to join our team as Law Librarian for Archives and Research Services. This is a full-time position, available immediately.
Under the general supervision of the Associate Law Librarian for Research Services, the Law Librarian for Archives and Research Services is responsible for the development, maintenance, and promotion of the Emory Law Archives (ELA) housed in the Hugh F. MacMillan Law Library. This position is also part of the Research Services team which provides high-quality legal and non-legal reference assistance to law library users including students, faculty, members of the local bar, and the general public. Such services include providing faculty scholarship support for law faculty, staffing the Reference Desk and interacting with a variety of patron groups, providing classroom instruction in a variety of settings, supporting and maintaining the Emory Law Archives, and supporting and participating in outreach programs.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Develop, maintain, and promote the Emory Law Archives;
Prepare finding aids and create and maintain online research guides and other materials that enhance access to the ELA collection and other legal information;
Provide training and guidance to those working with the ELA collection;
Curate regular exhibitions showcasing the ELA collection and support Emory Law events and initiatives utilizing materials from the ELA collection;
Work with a variety of student groups, including faculty research assistants, journal students, law school graduate students, and Emory University students to assist with their library and legal research needs;
Staff the MacMillan Law Library’s Reference Desk and assist a variety of patrons in the use of legal research materials in all formats – some evening and weekend hours may be required;
Support faculty scholarship by participating in the Library’s Faculty Services Program including providing scholarship support and classroom assistance for seminar courses;
Serve on law library and university library committees;
Engage in professional development activities, scholarship and service; and
Perform other associated duties as required.
A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and an M.L.I.S (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution. Candidates who will complete their M.L.I.S. or equivalent prior to start date will be considered;
Understanding of archival theory and practice including national standards for archival materials;
Strong communication skills; including a high comfort level interacting with a wide range of patrons;
Demonstrated ability to work independently within a framework of assigned responsibilities, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
Working knowledge of ArchivesSpace or other archival management system;
Experience working in a law library setting; and
Familiarity with best practices in digitization of archival materials.
